Wenzel Joseph Janisch (1861-1916), Architect

Wenzel Joseph Janisch was born in Austria in 1861 and emigrated to the U.S. in 1885. He was listed in the St. Paul, Minnesota city directory of 1886 as an architect with E. H. Strassburger. Janisch was listed in the 1889 city directory for Lincoln, Nebraska as "Wenzel J. Yanish," an architect. While in Nebraska he married Amelia, also a native of Austria, and their son Walter Wenzel was born around 1890. The family was in Colorado when daughter Etelka was born in 1892, then relocated to St. Louis by 1900. Wenzel Janisch died in St. Louis in 1916.[1][2][a]

a. Wenzel's death certificate of 1916 lists his name as "Wenzel J. Janisch" and his occupation as "Architect" in the industry of "Buildings." His wife provided May 2, 1861 as his date of birth in Austria and his death date was entered as January 8, 1916.[2] His son Walter Wenzel Janisch (1890-1952) was listed in 1910 census as an "apprentice architect."[3]

b. Emil H. Strassburger was listed as an architect in Crookston, Minnesota in the 1900 U.S. Census. He was born in Germany in 1853.[5]
