Stanley E. Johansen was born March 30, 1907 in Chicago. He moved to South Sioux City in 1913 but returned to Chicago to marry Jo I. Wade on July 18, 1934. The pair produced two sons, Jan and Roger. Johansen spent the majority of his career as an associate architect with Beuttler & Arnold's firm, from. During World War II, he was the resident engineer at Sioux City Air Base. He was involved in the design of many hospitals and commercial buildings in the Siouxland area. He retired in 1971.
In addition to his architectural work, Johansen served on the Planning and Zoning Board of South Sioux City, the South Sioux City Board of Education, and the boards of several Sioux City hospitals. He also was a charter member of the First Lutheran Church, as well as a member of the Masonic Lodge of South Sioux City, the American Association of Architects of Nebraska, and the Engineers Club of Sioux City.[1]
