Auburn, Nebraska, 1893-1920

Born in Illinois in August of 1847, Hugh Bellas was a building contractor who advertised himself as an architect in Auburn, Nebraska, directories in 1893 and 1909. From 1870-1880 he was working as a carpenter in Jersey and Greene, Illinois. He was married to Rebecca Bellas, and together they had eight children by 1900.[1][2][3] One of his sons, Charles Bellas also became an architect. Bellas continued in the building business until at least 1920, and died in Auburn in 1930.[5][6]
