Charles R. DeLaMatyr was born in December of 1853 in Coudersport, Pennsylvania, to Harriet (nee Stanton) and Rev. John Henry DeLaMatyr, who was a carpenter/joiner and an itinerant Methodist Episcopal minister.[x] At least two of John's brothers were also Methodist preachers; Coudersport was a brief stop on the family's journeys that took them to Wisconsin, Nevada, and Nebraska.[a]
