Augustus Theodore Haase was born in Hanover, Germany on May 5, 1835. He immigrated to the United States in 1848, around the age of 13, and settled in Virginia. At the age of 23, in 1858, Haase moved to Dakota City, Nebraska, Territory, to pursue his trade of carpentry. During his sixty-five years in Dakota City, Haase built many structures, including dwellings, the courthouse, and Emmanuel Lutheran Church. He also constructed caskets and beehives. He died August 27, 1920.[1][3]
