Bassett, Nebraska, 1947-2000s

Thomas John Galleher was born on April 12, 1921 to Effa (Barr) and H.W. “Harry” Galleher in Omaha, Nebraska. He grew up in Bassett, Nebraska and lived and worked there for the rest of his life. Galleher received his degree in architectural engineering at the University of Nebraska after serving in WWII. Known in the Bassett region as “Uncle Tom,” Galleher designed several notable buildings in Rock County, including his cabin in Hidden Paradise.[1][2][3] The downtown Bassett Lodge & Range Café, for which Galleher drew blueprints and designed the interior, is on the National Register of Historic Places for its Art Moderne style and its association with the Bassett Livestock Auction.[4] Tom Galleher designed at least three buildings in the region while working at his family's lumber company for most of his career. Tom Galleher died on February 1, 2015 in Bassett.[3]
