Lincoln, Nebraska, 1841

Born in Ohio on June 21, 1848 to George and Belinda Atkinson Hedge, Porter Hedge was raised in Iowa.[1] He served in the Fifty-first Ohio Infantry during Civil War, then was a farmer for a few years after graduating from Oskaloosa College.[1][2] At various times in his live, Hedge worked in real estate, abstracting, and law.[1] He continued practicing the former two of the list after moving to Lincoln in 1886, and continued to do so until his death on September 5, 1903.[1][2]
