Lincoln, Nebraska, 1929-1984

John Oliver Unthank was born in Lincoln, Nebraska on August 3, 1904. He attended the University of Nebraska, receiving his Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering in 1928. Unthank was the manager of the architectural firm Lumberman's Plan Service Company in 1929. He was half of the partnership Unthank & Vastine, Architects during the year of 1930. In 1940, he first became a partner with his brother, George Ralph Unthank, Jr. in their architectural business, Unthank & Unthank, which became a permanent firm in 1947, and from which John retired in 1984.[4] They were the sons of George R. Unthank, a building contractor for many years.[4] Unthank was a Charter member of the Nebraska Schools Facility Council from 1964-1970, and was President of the Mayor's Architectural Committee in Lincoln, from 1968-1969.[2][3] John Oliver Unthank died on April 13, 2000.[5]
