Information = Key to the blockhouse of the first Fort Kearny, in Nebraska City

Description = The U.S. Army established the first Fort Kearny at present-day Nebraska City on the Missouri River in 1846. The army moved west in 1848 and built the second Fort Kearny on the Platte River. There all the feeder lines from the starting points converged. Fort Kearny’s most important function was giving aid to travelers. Key to the blockhouse of the first Fort Kearny, in Nebraska City.
